Day 19. Nashville: The Parthenon. Hattie B’s Hot Chicken. Jack’s Bar-B-Que. [Nashville Downtown Hostel]
Because I seriously drank too much last night, I slept for the longest time ever. 13 hours or so, I believe. I left the hostel around 12:30 pm, and rode a scooter to the Parthenon, arriving in 30 minutes ($5.80 for 32 minutes and 2.8 miles). It was a nice warm day with clear sky and sunlight, very much unlike a winter day.
I had trouble unlocking bird again, and even got charged twice for some scooter that never unlocked (they refunded me later today after I wrote to them). In the end, I walked another block for a lime scooter.
The rule was that people shouldn’t ride scooters on sidewalks. I tried the road, got honked by a huge bus, and it took me by surprise so much, I nearly fell off the scooter. So forget the rules, I still ride on sidewalks.
Greek Replica
The Nashville Parthenon is the only 1:1 replica of the Greek temple. It cost $6.50 for an adult to get into the museum part, in which were historic pictures, paintings and a huge Nike goddess. Not exactly worth the price, but it wasn’t too bad either. The paintings were by American painters, mostly around the start of the 20th century.
More Southern Food
I left a little after 2 pm, and rode to lunch ($2.65 for 11 minutes and 1.2 miles). Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is a famous restaurant here, and I ordered a medium hot sm dark ($8.50 excluding taxes & tips) with pimento mac & cheese and red skin potato salad as sides, a banana pudding ($3.00 excluding taxes & tips) and a lemonade ($2.00 excluding taxes & tips; refillable).

As a person who cannot tolerate much hotness compared to my friends, I surprised myself when I thought medium hot wasn’t hot. Just a bit. Only the toast soaked with the sauce underneath was sort of spicy. The chicken was delicious, as were the sides. The banana pudding was way sweeter than I had thought it would be, being a bread, banana, custard mix. It was so sweet, however, that my lemonade tasted rather sour. I didn’t finish it. Really sweet dessert was just not for me.
Afterwards, I scootered back near the hostel ($3.40 for 2.2 miles in 16 minutes) to grab a coffee at 4 pm, hoping to also get some work done on my laptop. But the WiFi at Starbucks wasn’t working, so I soon went back to my room.
Meeting New Friends
A few of my roommates were back in the room when I reached there, and we chatted for a bit and got to know more of each other. Some of them had already met earlier or the day before, and the fun thing was that we were literally from all parts of the world, spanning 4 continents.
Even though I was practically stuffed from my hot chicken meal, when they were going out for dinner at 6 pm, I tagged along. We went to Jack’s Bar-B-Que and I got a Tennessee pork shoulder sandwich ($5.25 excluding taxes & tips). Since I just got a burger, I couldn’t really tell how good the meat was, but my friends said that it was dry and not the best BBQ meat. We chatted over dinner, and it was great.

Summary
I seriously needed to get more work done, and since I drank too much last night, I decided to take a break from nighttime outing tonight, and stayed in my hostel room. Tomorrow would be my last full day in Nashville, and let’s hope it would be fun!
