The Becoming is the second book in The Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy. While I enjoyed The Awakening (my review), I loved this sequel. I love the writing and the characters! Even though I didn’t fully understanding the magics, it’s okay because Breen doesn’t understand either. Also, I’m not rating for the romance aspect (I’m not feeling the chemistry); I’m rating for how awesome the people in the book are.

Having learned more about her past and the powers within her, Breen is now back in Talamh; this time, with her best friend Marco (gay, Black) with her. As the situation in the world of Fey becomes more dire, Breen has to think fast and train hard to defeat the evil god Odran.

There is something about Morgan Lee Miller’s writing that gets me every time. Despite seeing the obligatory conflict coming all the way from Europa, I enjoyed getting to know all the characters, except for Theo (duh). The Infinite Summer is so nerdy and I love that.

Remi Brenner (bisexual, white) dreams of becoming an astronaut, and enrolling in MIT’s aerospace program is her first step to realizing the dream. But her father threatened Remi to spend the summer with him and celebrity chef stepmother Serena DeLuca or else he wouldn’t pay for her college tuition. What started out as an involuntary trip to Gaslight Shores turns out to be a life-altering journey for Remi as she meets Harper Herbert (lesbian, white), whose parents own the po’boy shop Acadian.

This is the second book I’ve read this month featuring an elementary school teacher main (the other one is Marry Me by Melissa Brayden; my review here), and gosh, why aren’t there more books with frazzled teachers and trouble-making kids?

Vanessa Martini (33) knows what she wants in a woman: not her students’ mom, not under 35 years old. But when she met Grace Chapman (29, bisexual), mother of the headache named Oliver, they connected better than expected. Too good, actually. Could the worst timing of Grace going through divorce while Oliver is in Vanessa’s class turn out to be the best time for them to date?

SHAKEN OR STIRRED by Georgia Beers | ARC Review

Cover of Shaken or Stirred (Georgia Beers)

SHAKEN OR STIRRED (A Swizzle Stick Romance #1) by Georgia Beers

A new series with gay cousins and I’m so here for it! Shaken or Stirred is the first book in the Swizzle Stick Romance trilogy featuring cousins Julia, Vanessa, and Amelia Martini, respectively. I love this trio and am excited for Vanessa’s (On the Rocks) and Amelia’s stories because Vanessa is such a fun person who is an elementary school teacher and Amelia is in her late forties (48 in Shaken or Stirred) who takes zero bullshit. While Vanessa and Amelia seem to have more personality to them, Julia is… a business owner who is a workaholic. Maybe not the most intriguing character, her story was still an enjoyable one.

Julia Martini (38) just bought Martini’s from her uncle and reopened the bar. When Savannah McNally (34), who works as a caretaker, comes in for a drink one day, sparks fly. But there is something going on between the Martinis and McNallys on top of other issues within their own families. Will Julia and Savannah retreat to their comfort zones and miss out on this chance of love?

THE BREATH BETWEEN WAVES by Charlotte Anne Hamilton | ARC Review

THE BREATH BETWEEN WAVES by Charlotte Anne Hamilton

The Titanic journey lasted for six days from April 10th to 15th, 1912. It was supposed to arrive at New York on the 17th. To make the main characters fall in love within the timeframe is a huge challenge, and unfortunately, the chemistry between them wasn’t enough for me to be fully invested in their story.

Penelope Fletcher doesn’t want to leave Scotland, but she joins her parents onboard Titanic after being heartbroken by her ex-girlfriend. Her roommate, Ruby Cole, is traveling with her sister’s family. As they spend more time together, they realize there might be something brewing between them, but the clock is ticking as they get closer and closer to their destination.
