Hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook, #5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme where we talk about 5 books on our TBR on Mondays. You can learn more about it in E.’s original announcement or #5OnMyTBR page.
This week’s prompt: 2020 Release.
I started reviewing ARCs on NetGalley and directly from publishers and authors in March this year. Since then, most of the books I have read are 2020 releases.
But I don’t want to talk about ARCs today. I am going to list 5 books released in 2020 that I purchased instead. All are #ownvoices books.

The Edge of Anything by Nora Shalaway Carpenter
- Publisher: Running Press Kids, March 24th 2020
- Genre: Young Adult
- Format: Ebook
- Page Count: 368 pages
This book is about mental health and friendship. I don’t think we have enough books about pure friendship and I am really looking forward to seeing this connection between Len and Sage. We also need more #ownvoices books on mental health issues like this one.
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender
- Publisher: Balzer + Bray, May 5th 2020
- Genre: Young Adult, LGBTQ+
- Format: Ebook
- Page Count: 368 pages
Felix is Black, transgender, and a demiboy, and so is Callender (they/them, sometimes he/him). I have heard so many amazing things about this book that I have to read it. This one is very high on my TBR, and I am planning on devouring it during Transgender Awareness Week in November this year.
The Scent of Rome by Lise Gold
The author is sapphic and the book is sapphic. I have never read anything by Gold yet but have seen her in a couple virtual book events. Now I really want to try her books. With this one being her newest standalone, it might be a good start. Also, the audiobook narrated by TJ Richards is supposed to be out very soon.
Remember Me, Synthetica by K. Aten
- Publisher: Regal Crest Enterprises, Jul 1st 2020
- Genre: Sci-Fi, Romance, LGBTQ+
- Format: Ebook
- Page Count: 276 pages
Another sapphic romance from another sapphic author I have never read! I am super excited about this book because guess what it is about? Alan Turing’s fictional great niece Dr. Alexandra Turing who is a roboticist! As an engineering student who has worked on program automation, this sounds like the perfect sapphic romance for me. I know, I am such a geek.
Intimations by Zadie Smith
I’ve read Zadie Smith’s fictional work NW in British Literature class when I studied abroad in the US. It was a peculiar experience but I really liked the book. Intimations is Smith’s newest nonfiction on recent events, including the pandemic and racial justice.
Writing this #5OnMyTBR is making me really excited about these books. I cannot wait to start reading them!
Have you read any of these books? What are your #5OnMyTBR of 2020 release? Comment what you think!
