#5OnMyTBR — Magic

Hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme where we talk about 5 books on our TBR on Mondays. You can learn more about it in E.’s original announcement or #5OnMyTBR page.

This week’s prompt: Magic.

Having a little magic in life makes dark times a little more bearable. Here are five indie LGBTQ+ books I already own that has magic in them.

Click on the book cover for more info on Goodreads.

Cover of Lady of Stone (Barbara Ann Wright)

Lady of Stone (A Pyradisté Adventure #0) by Barbara Ann Wright

  • Publisher: Bold Strokes Books, September 15th 2020
  • Keywords: magic, royalties, romance, sapphic

I have seen Wright in some wlw/lesfic virtual event but yet to read her works. This one is a prequel to one of her series and seems to be able to read as a standalone.

Cover of The Four Profound Weaves (R.B. Lemberg)

The Four Profound Weaves (Birdverse) by R.B. Lemberg

  • Publisher: Tachyon Publications, September 1st 2020
  • Keywords: magic, trans

So many of my friends have written beautiful reviews of this novella that I realized I need to read it. It’s completely queer and the author is a bigender immigrant. Art is often inseparable from its creator and I cannot wait to see what this book brings.

Cover of Thorn (Anna Burke)

Thorn by Anna Burke

  • Publisher: Bywater Books, January 29th 2019
  • Keywords: magic, Beauty and the Beast, retelling, romance, sapphic

I think it being a sapphic retelling of Beauty and the Beast by Anna Burke already explains why it is on my TBR.

Cover of A Pinch of Salt (Nita Round)

A Pinch of Salt (The Towers of the Earth #0.1) by Nita Round

  • Publisher: Pink Tea Books, January 10th 2020
  • Keywords: magic, pirate, warrior, steampunk, sapphic

This is a novella prequel to a series my Goodreads friend Lex absolutely love. Her wonderful reviews have convinced me to try out the series—at least this prequel—and I’m pretty sure I am going to love it as well.

Cover of The Falcon’s Heart (Diana Green)

The Falcon’s Heart by Diana Green

  • Publisher: Birch Leaf Press, June 22nd 2020
  • Keywords: magic, royalty, sorcerer, romance, sapphic

This is another book I totally got because of the aforementioned Lex and I’m sure the story… cannot be judged by its cover.

Good choices! I’ve read The Four Profound Weaves and it has the most amazing magic system, I just loved that part of the magic system is actually focused on transitioning and changing your body, it’s written so beautifully! I also really want to read Thorn too, sapphic Beauty and the Beast is all I need to know!

Oh yes, you are definitely one of the friends with a beautiful review for The Four Profound Weaves! I am also recently frustrated with the incredibly cis and/or gender binary world in many SFFs so I am extra excited to read it!
I’m currently reading Thorn and it’s great so far! I hope you’ll enjoy it when you get to it!
      Thanks so much, Rach!

Yes! I’m really looking forward to reading The Four Profound Weaves because it’s everything we need in a fantasy novella! Also, Burke has another sapphic retelling Nottingham (Robin Hood) and I just need to read both books, preferably now. Hope you’ll enjoy the books when you read them!! 💕💕
