#5OnMyTBR — Books About Books

Hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme where we talk about 5 books on our TBR on Mondays. You can learn more about it in E.’s original announcement or #5OnMyTBR page.

This week’s prompt: Books about Books.

Today is Teacher’s Day in Taiwan, so in a way, discussing books about books fits the theme! Here are 5 books related to books on my TBR from nonfiction to sapphic and m/f romance.

Click on the book cover for more info on Goodreads.

Cover of Making Nature (Melinda Baldwin)

Making Nature: The History of a Scientific Journal by Melinda Baldwin

  • Publisher: University of Chicago Press, 2015
  • Keywords: history, science, nonfiction

This would probably never be on my TBR if my advisor had not assigned us to read it. Each month, I believe, our research group reads something related to social justice. While I am unsure if this book actually uncovers some of the discriminations within the scientific community, I am pretty intrigued to learn more about Nature, the famous journal.

Cover of Letters Never Sent (Sandra Moran)

Letters Never Sent by Sandra Moran

  • Publisher: Bedazzled Ink Publishing, 2013
  • Keywords: historical, romance, sapphic

Almost all my Goodreads friends love this book and since I love historical sapphic romance, I just had to read it someday. I know “letters” are probably not considered as “books,” but they are close enough.

Cover of Self-Editing fo Fiction Writers (Renni Browne, Dave King)

Self-Editing for Fiction Writers: How to Edit Yourself Into Print by Renni Browne & Dave King

  • Publisher: William Morrow; first published in 1993
  • Keywords: writing, nonfiction

Okay, I know. Why do I even have this on my TBR? Because the wonderful Clare Ashton (whose newest sapphic celebrity romance I loved) recommended it during SCLHO Virtual 2020. I added it to my TBR in case I ever need an editing reference book.

Cover of The Book of Two Ways (Jodi Picoult)

The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult

  • Publisher: Ballantine, September 22nd 2020
  • Keywords: romance (second-chance?), Egypt

I used to read a lot of Picoult back in my teenage years. To this day, she remains one of the authors whose works I’ve read the most. I always enjoyed her writing, and while the endings of most of her stories were less than satisfactory, I love learning new things in all the court scenes she used to write. The Book of Two Ways is a romance, but I am excited to read it after so many years of not reading her novels.

Cover of Spellbook of the Lost and Fount (Moïra Fowley-Doyle)

Spellbook of the Lost and Found by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

  • Publisher: Kathy Dawson Book, 2017
  • Keywords: magical realism, mystery, young adult, sapphic

This book joined my TBR after I read a 2-sentence review of it from our lovely #5OnMyTBR host E. The cover is beautiful, it’s sapphic, and E. had called it a piece of art. What’s not to love?
