#5OnMyTBR — Red Cover

Hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme where we talk about 5 books on our TBR on Mondays. You can learn more about it in E.’s original announcement or #5OnMyTBR page.

This week’s prompt: Red Cover.

I have been traveling the past weekend so I am running behind on replying to all the lovely people who dropped by my blog as well as blog hopping. I promise I will get back to each message very soon and check out all your amazing new posts. Though my schedule is a mess after neglecting my duties for a couple days due to packing and flying, nothing will keep me from participating in #5OnMyTBR!

Here are 5 books on my TBR with pretty red covers.

Click on the book cover for more info on Goodreads.

Thorn Fruit (The Gardener’s Hand #1) by Felicia Davin

Cover of Thorn Fruit (Felicia Davin)
  • Publisher: Etymon Press, February 8th 2018
  • Genre: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance, LGBTQ+ (sapphic)
  • Page Count: 354 pages

I think I got this book when it was on sale on Kindle. All it took for me to be interested in Thorn Fruit was knowing it is sapphic.

The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Feminine Pursuits #1) by Olivia Waite

Cover of The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Olivia Waite)
  • Publisher: Avon Impulse, June 25th 2019
  • Genre: Historical, Romance, LGBTQ+ (sapphic)
  • Page Count: 336 pages

Normally, I don’t like to see the characters’ faces on a romance cover, but how can I resist this? Also, can you believe I have yet to read this historical romance (series)?

Unconquerable Sun (The Sun Chronicles #1) by Kate Elliott

Cover of Unconquerable Sun (Kate Elliott)
  • Publisher: Head of Zeus, October 1st 2020
  • Genre: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, LGBTQ+ (sapphic)
  • Page Count: 528 pages

This sapphics-in-space book was first published by Tor Books two months ago, and the publication date for this edition is next month. I actually have an ARC, so I am really excited to start reading it very soon!

The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Cover of The Mercies (Kiran Millwood Hargrave)
  • Publisher: Little, Brown and Company, February 11th 2020
  • Genre: Historical, Literary, LGBTQ+ (sapphic)
  • Page Count: 336 pages

At this point, I am assuming almost everything on my TBR is somewhat sapphic. The Mercies is about the Vardø storm and witches. For some reason I thought the story has to do with mythology even though it does not.

The Poppy War (The Poppy War) by R. F. Kuang

Cover of The Poppy War (R. F. Kuang)
  • Publisher: Harper Voyager, April 23rd 2019 (first published May 1st 2018)
  • Genre: Fantasy, Historical
  • Page Count: 544 pages

This series gives off major wuxia-novel (martial arts novel, 武俠小說) vibe I am so intrigued! I love everything by Jin Yong (金庸) and Zheng Feng (鄭丰) and to read something that might be in a similar genre by a Chinese-American in English seems super exciting!

Have you read any of these books? What books on your TBR have red covers? Comment what you think!

Great list! So many sapphic books! I think I may have Thorn Fruit on my kindle as well? And The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics is so good! I loved the mix of astronomy and embrodiery!!
Congrats on scoring the ARC of Unconquerable Sun!! <3

I recently got Olivia Waite’s book too! it was really cheap on Kindle and I’m curious about historical romance in general, esp if it’s sapphic. I also really want to read The Poppy War since everyone on book twitter is freaking out about how amazing it is. Great list!

Yes!! I also have it on my Kindle since it was on sale, and I’ve heard so many great things about the series (plus, I love historical romance)! I’ve yet to order a copy of The Poppy War but how pretty is that cover?! 🥺 I hope you’ll enjoy both books, Mel, and thank you so much!! 💕💕
