Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

The moral lesson here is to treat everyone kindly. You never know if any of your actions would create a deep gash in another person’s heart. Also, do what you must. Time never waits.

Overall, the plot was somewhat interesting: 13 sides of tapes, 13 stories of 12 people, 13 reasons why Hannah Baker suicided (or maybe 12). The 7 tapes were stories of how one event triggered the next, how dangerous unintentional actions could be, and the process of Hannah losing faith in people. However, I felt completely disconnected from the characters. It was supposed to be sad and everything, but even when Clay broke down, I felt nothing. Maybe all the characters tried too hard to refrain themselves from showing what they really thought, and thus creating an emotional barrier between readers and the book.

Still, the story was intriguing enough for me to finish it in two days. [21 May 2018]
