Growing up, I read a lot of historical fantasy in Chinese, namely, martial arts (wuxia) novels. I love historical fiction, with or without fantasy elements, and here are five LGBTQ+ historical fiction I am excited to read.

Unmasked by the Marquess (Regency Imposters #1) by Cat Sebastian

Confession here: I have never read anything by Cat Sebastian. I was recently convinced to try, and I am especially interested in Unmasked by the Marquess since it is an m/nb romance! Thanks to Laura @lezreadlot for the recommendation. Check out her review on Goodreads.

Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure (The Worth Saga #2.75) by Courtney Milan

• Publisher: Self-Published, March 26th 2019

Another shocking thing is that I have also never read Courtney Milan. This novella is an f/f romance between older women (seventy-three and sixty-nine, I think) and if that isn’t the best thing, I don’t know what is. Also, this is one of Tara Scott’s favorite books. The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue

I am getting into a pattern of including books by famous, prolific authors whose works I haven’t read yet. Just because this book was recently out and Wendy’s wonderful review on Goodreads, I got a copy, deciding it should be my first Donoghue read. I think there is also a pandemic going on in the story. Timely.

Heart of Gold (Heart #1) by Luci Dreamer

In martial arts novels, many women dressed up as men so that they’d be able to do whatever they want. None of the ones I’ve read were sapphic, however. The first disguise-as-a-man f/f romance I’ve ever read was Jae’s Backwards to Oregon, and when I found out Dreamer’s Heart of Gold is yet another one, I know I have to read it. Cantoras by Carolina De Robertis

I can never say no to sapphic literary fiction, and with the historical theme, I am even surer about reading it. In fact, I recently got a copy after reading Gaby’s review at LezReviewBooks. I bet you will, too, after reading her review.
