Bookish,  WLW Wednesday

WLW Wednesday — 7 Oct 2020

WLW Wednesday is a bookish meme among bloggers who read sapphic books. Hosted by Sasha and Amber @ Sasha and Amber Read, we are encouraged share our recent wlw/sapphic reads every week or two.

Time for my bi-weekly sapphic update! This time, I read a bit more than the previous two weeks, and I am pretty proud of myself for that. Life is still messy, but my reading schedule is slowly getting back on track.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve read three sapphic novels (one YA fantasy, one adult romance, one romance/erotica) and one sapphic novella (adult romance). For more info on Goodreads, click on the covers.

Cover of Girl, Serpent, Thorn (Melissa Bashardoust)
★★★★★

Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust, read by Nikki Massoud

Finished on 25 Sep 2020.

I’ve forgotten how amazing listening to stories are, and after Girl, Serpent, Thorn? I fell in love with audiobooks again and it is easily one of my best reads this year. Feel my love for it here.

Cover of Home (Kris Bryant)
★★★

Home by Kris Bryant

Finished on 27 Sep 2020.

This romance was super cute and joyful and has a gorgeous dog. I repeat, it has a gorgeous dog. But sadly, there were a few things regarding recent events that made me unable to overlook some of the issues, so it ended up making me feel pretty conflicted. See my review here for more information.

Cover of Lockset (Brenda Murphy)
★★★

Lockset (University Square #2) by Brenda Murphy

Finished on 4 Oct 2020.

I will forever read anything by Murphy because she writes one of the best poc characters in the world of lesfic/wlw romance. The life experiences of being poc always show up in the plot and I love that Murphy writes them because she wants to tell their story and not because it looks good to have diversity like so many other books I’ve read. Lockset is more of an erotica since having sex is the main language between the two main characters. I have yet to finish a full review of this, but you can read my current thoughts here and my full review of the first book in the series here.

Cover of Beyond the Lights (Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue)
★★

Beyond the Lights by Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue

Finished on 5 Oct 2020.

The premise of this novella seems cute, since it is basically a best-friend romance, but the execution doesn’t really fit my taste so I was mildly disappointed. You can read my thoughts here.
