I figured since I love Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, this book might be something of the same sort. According to Becky, Stephen’s book was part of her inspiration.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is a very cute and LGBTQ+-themed young adult novel. The plot was nice and very heartwarming, and considering the fact that it is a YA book, it was not too sophisticated, either. Sure, there were a bit of rivalries between the teens, but nothing were too bad to make listeners/readers feel any sense of dread. The most evil parts were mainly just Martin’s blackmail. Most characters either publicly showed their meanness, or were just very truly sweet. A listener/reader can focus on the storyline and interactions between the characters rather than being overwhelmed by teenage trickeries. Because of this, I feel I know most of the people in the story and each person also had their own flaws just as any one in the real world. Simon’s friends and family were honestly the best of kind: thoughtful Nora, sensible Nick, supportive Abby, etc.

Becky did a wondrous job at getting into Simon’s head, proving her time as a psychologist very helpful. Michael was amazing at voicing Simon, and their emotions blended very well.

The cuteness of the story left me bursting with simple rainbow happiness. [15 Apr 2018]
